The overall specifications of boAt Bassheads 242 are pretty good. But we all know that on paper specs don’t translate to real-life performance.

We have already seen a lot of earphones that are excellent on paper but average in real life.

So how does boAt Bassheads 242 performs in real life? Let’s find out.

In the box, you will get:

  • boAt Bassheads 242 earphone
  • Extra ear tips
  • A free pouch to carry earphones
  • Warranty card and booklet
  • A boAt sticker

The box contents are pretty standard, but the carry pouch is a nice inclusion as it can be used to store the earphones.

Build Quality

boAt Bassheads 242 Build Quality

After taking the earphone out of the box, you will realize that it’s a well-built earphone.

Although the whole earphone is made of plastic, it feels extremely good.

The wire has a rubber texture, which is flexible but durable.

Yes, the wire may feel very thin, but it’s not fragile. It would have been great to include a braided cable, but that’s missing here.

The earbuds are also made of plastic, but the overall quality is sturdy. There is no creaking and rattling sound.

The boAt 242 feels good overall, unlike the Blaupunkt EM01, which has cheap quality plastic.

Additionally, we tested the wire, and it remains tangle-free, which is a nice bonus.

We are totally satisfied with the build quality. There is no major complaint in this regard. However, the wire from the splitter to the earbuds could have been thicker.

Build Quality Rating: 4.0

Design and Comfort

boAt Bassheads 242 Design

The boAt 242 is designed for those who are involved in sports activities like gym, running, cycling, or anything related.

Hence, the earbuds come with ear hooks to offer more grip. While listening to music, we have found that these ear hooks really enhance the grip.

The earbuds are tilted at a 45° angle and fit perfectly in the ear.

But here comes the problem with this design.

The earbuds fit so tightly in the ears that it starts to hurt after some time. The ear hooks make the grip so tight that it gets a little uncomfortable.

We know that comfort is subjective as it depends on the size and shape of the ear. But as long as we have tested, this earphone gives pain after 20-30 minutes.

We took off the ear hooks to solve this problem, and surprisingly, the comfort improved drastically.

Now we were able to listen to music for hours without any earache. But note that removing the ear hooks also loose the grip a little.

The design is comfortable, but the fit isn’t for everyone. If you have small ears, then you may face comfort issues. In such a case, we advise you to remove the ear hooks.

Design and Comfort Rating: 3.8

Call Quality

boAt Bassheads 242 Call Quality

If you are buying a wired earphone, you expect it to deliver a satisfactory call quality. The expectations go high from a reputed brand like boAt.

Well, the boAt Bassheads 242 lives up to its expectations.

The call quality is one of the best in this segment, thanks to the clever placement of the mic.

Housing the mic is a media controller, which is placed in the wire of the right side earbud. Due to this, the mic gets closer to the mouth, which results in impressive call quality.

While talking to a phone call, the receiver has never faced even a single issue. The mic picks up the voice clearly and delivers it to the other end with the same clarity.

Even in a noisy environment, the call quality remains clear.

So if you make a lot of calls using earphones, then don’t worry, this mic is one of the best in the same regard.

As expected from boAt, this earphone delivers a great call quality in every situation.

Sound and Bass Quality (With Sample)

It is the most important factor in considering any earphone, and the boAt Bassheads 242 won’t disappoint you.

After using this earphone for many days, we are more than happy with its sound output.

The vocals are clear and remain the same even at high volumes.

The treble is punchy and vibrant and mixes properly with vocals.

This earphone won’t disappoint the bass lovers because the bass is heavy and deep.

It doesn’t muffle the vocals and treble. Instead, it goes smoothly with other frequencies.

Every frequency is complimented by each other to deliver a great audio experience.

The Bassheads 242 handles very heavy bass songs pretty fine without distorting the overall sound.

Here is a quick audio sample of boAt Bassheads 242.

It’s a recorded audio sample using an external mic, so it won’t do justice to the original sound quality. But we have tried our best to demonstrate how the Bassheads 242 sounds.

Note that this earphone gets pretty loud. Most people won’t need to cross 80% volume.

In a nutshell, the audio output of Bassheads 242 is impressive. It delivers clear vocals, vibrant treble, and punchy bass.
