There are some differences in both these earphones, at least on paper.

Although the differences are minimal, they make a significant impact in daily life while using both these earphones.

So let’s begin with the Boat Bassheads 242 vs 225 comparison so that you know how these earphones are different from one another.

Boat Bassheads 242 vs 225 Comparison

Build Quality

Boat Bassheads 242 vs 225 Build quality

The moment you take both earphones out of the box, you will notice that the packaging of the Boat 242 is better than the boAt 225.

Also, the carrying pouch is included in the box of Boat 242, where you have to pay extra to get one with Boat 225. Obviously, the quality of the case with 225 is superior as you are paying extra.

Coming to the build quality, both the earphones are well built, but you will be impressed by the metal earphones of Boat 225.

It feels rock solid and premium for the price. The wire quality is also good. It’s a flat style wire that remains tangle free.

The L shape of gold plated 3.5mm headphone jack adds to the premiumness.

The Boat 242, on the other hand, is entirely made of plastic. But it feels super sturdy, too.

The wire is rounded and made of plastic. It feels hard, but the wire from the splitter to the earphone is thinner, which doesn’t give much of an assuring feel.

Verdict: Both earphones are well built, and you won’t have much problems. But overall, the Boat 225 feels more premium, thanks to the metal earbuds.

Design and Comfort

Boat Bassheads 242 vs 225 Design

Both earphones are completely different in design, and frankly speaking, neither offer the best comfort.

Allow us to explain why.

Boat Bassheads 242 (Full Review) has small size earbuds that are tilted at 45°. Technically, they are supposed to fit perfectly in ears, and they actually do, but the problem comes with the ear hooks.

These ear hooks make the earbuds fit so tight in the ears that they start to give pain after 30-40 minutes.

So what’s the solution?

Just remove the ear hooks for better comfort. Without ear hooks, the Boat 242 fits so comfortably in the ears that listening to music for hours becomes no problem at all. It just fits in the ear perfectly.

The same story is with the Boat 225 but in a different way.

The capsule-type earbuds of the Boat 225 are not tilted. Hence, they remain straight and slightly protrude out of the ears.

It doesn’t have any problem until you move your head here and there a lot.

While moving the head or looking in other directions, it feels like the wire is pushing earphones downwards, which loose the grip a bit.

It doesn’t give any earache, but you have to keep adjusting the earphones when you move or shake your head.

Verdict: Comfort is very subjective and depends on the shape and size of your ear, but we just shared what we have noticed. It’s not a very major problem, but worth mentioning.

Call Quality

We all know that Bluetooth earphones or TWS deliver subpar call quality. That’s why most people always keep complaining about the call quality.

Wired earphones, on the other hand, never disappoint in calls, no matter how expensive or cheap the earphone is.

Fortunately, these two earphones live up to the expectations and don’t disappoint.

The mic placement is exactly the same on both, which is closer to the mouth, resulting in great call quality.

The person on the other end never complained about the voice, thanks to the mic that doesn’t pick up too much environmental noise.

It shows how good these earphones are in the calling department.

Verdict: These two are great earphones for calling. If you make a lot of calls using earphones, then neither will disappoint you.

Sound and Bass Quality

Boat Bassheads 242 vs 225 Sound quality

Let’s be very clear first. If you don’t like heavy bass, then neither of the earphones is for you. These earphones are clearly for heavy bass lovers.

Now there are two types of bass lovers.

  • Those who prefer only heavy bass over anything.
  • Those who prefer heavy bass but also want clear vocals and nice treble.

The Boat Bassheads 225 is for those who want only bass. Yes, this earphone delivers super heavy bass, which makes it a great deal for bass lovers.

However, the bass muffles the vocals, and the overall audio feels compressed. The same goes for the treble, too.

It would have been great if the company tuned down the bass and raised the vocals and treble. It could have created a balance in all frequencies.

But here comes the Boat 242, which offers the right balance in low, mid, and high frequencies.

The bass is heavy, but it feels more pronounced and open. It has depth and a thump to it.

Boat 242 also takes care of vocals and treble, both of which remain clear and pleasing.

It’s not as good as Realme Buds 2, but definitely better than the Boat 225.

If we have to give points to the overall sound of both earphones, then here would be.

Boat Bassheads 225

  • Bass (8.5 out of 10)
  • Vocals (6 out of 10)
  • Treble (6 out of 10)

Boat Bassheads 242

  • Bass (8 out of 10)
  • Vocals (7.5 out of 10)
  • Treble (7.5 out of 10)

As far as we have noticed, the overall sound from the Boat 242 is better than the 225.

It’s maybe due to the 32 ohm of impedance compared to the 16 ohm on the Boat 225, but there is a difference in the sound quality.

Verdict: Both earphones deliver good sound quality depending on what you want. We love the sound output from Boat 242 as it’s wider and more pleasing.
