It doesn’t matter how presentable the video is, if the audio is not audible, it can ruin everything, and no one will watch it.

Build Quality

Boya BYM1 Build quality

We won’t lie, but the wire quality of Boya BTM1 is above average. The wire is slightly thin, making it fragile on rough usage.

We have been using the mic for more than a year and never saw any sign of damage. But we use every gadget with care.

So as long as you use this mic normally, you won’t have any problem with the wire thickness.

The power module is made of metal and feels premium. Even the mode switch button also gives satisfying feedback.

The overall build quality is good, but it would have been great if they had given a braided cable. But indeed, it will increase the cost.

  • There is no need to install a battery when using this mic with a smartphone.
  • Move the switch on the power module to the OFF/Smartphone mode.
  • Open the audio-only or video recorder app and begin recording.

Important Note: The above audio samples are unedited. Please avoid the continuous background noise, as it was coming from our CPU fan. Using any free audio noise removal tool, you can get even better audio output with no background noise.

We have used the Boya BYM1 with our smartphone and laptop, and we have to say that compared to the inbuilt mic, it makes a drastic difference in audio quality.

It’s an excellent option for indoor recording, which includes storytelling, singing, interviews, and video or audio-only recording.

What about outdoor usage?

You can use this mic outdoors without any problem, but don’t use it in traffic or a very noisy environment. As it’s an Omnidirectional mic, it picks up sound from every direction.

For better clarity, keep the mic as near as possible to the source, and it won’t disappoint you with the output.

Also, the mic won’t work if you use it incorrectly. So make sure to connect it with the battery installed (if required) and the correct mode selected.

We can’t compare Boya BYM1 with expensive mics, but for the price of under Rs 1000, it’s an excellent budget-friendly mic.

Boya BYM1 Pros and Cons

  • Lightweight and easy to carry
  • Easy to use with any device
  • Excellent recording quality for the price
  • Clear audio output
  • Compatible with most devices
  • 6 meter long cable comes in handy in many situations
  • Excellent value for money mic

  • The mic picks up noise in a very noisy environment

Our Experience and Final Verdict

Boya BYM1 User Experience

The mic didn’t work when we connected it for the first time with our smartphone.

Later, we checked that the inbuilt audio recorder of the smartphone we were using doesn’t support an external mic.

So we installed a third-party app that supports external microphones, and Boya BYM1 started to work just fine.

Our overall experience has been satisfactory, considering the price.

Yes, the mic picks up surround noise sometimes, but not to the level of causing any discomfort.

So if you have a tight budget and are looking for a good-quality mic, the Boya BYM1 is our top recommendation. It’s the best mic under 1000.

It’s ideal for indoor recording, interviews, or filming YouTube videos.

But again, don’t compare its output to some high-end mics. Have realistic expectations, and this mic won’t disappoint you.
