Is it worth Buying Realme 9 Pro Plus

After so much hype, Realme has finally launched its new mid-range smartphone, the 9 Pro Plus, in the Indian market.

But the question is, Is it worth buying Realme 9 Pro Plus for the price of Rs 25000?

There are a ton of reviews on the internet about this smartphone, and most of them are positive.

Is this phone really that good? Does this smartphone justify its price tag? Is it worth buying Realme 9 Pro Plus over other smartphones?

To clear all these doubts, we have covered the things that are great, okayish, and worst in the Realme 9 Pro Plus.

Best features of Realme 9 Pro Plus

Is it worth Buying Realme 9 Pro Plus, Best features on Realme 9 Pro Plus

Primary Camera

The most highlighting feature of the Realme 9 Pro+ is the main camera.

Realme has dared to compare this camera to the Pixel 6 and Galaxy S21. Is it true?

Is Realme 9 Pro Plus camera is as good as the Pixel 6 or Samsung Galaxy S21?

Are you kidding? It’s a useless claim.

Those two smartphones are entirely on another level. Some reviewers have been praising its camera to the level of Pixel 6 or S21.

But, believe it or not, there is nothing like that.

It would have been nicer if Realme claimed it to be the best camera phone under 25k.

When we consider it as mid-range phone, then yes, it has excellent camera for the price.

The pictures taken with the primary 50MP camera turn out to be excellent in every lighting condition.

The Sony IMX766 sensor seems to work fine in maintaining the highlights and main subject in the frame.

Other smartphones fail to capture great shots in low light, but the 9 Pro Plus outperforms them using OIS.

The OIS really helps in taking some impressive images in low lighting conditions.

So overall, we are impressed by the pictures taken from the primary camera of Realme 9 Pro Plus, but don’t compare it to premium flagships.

The FHD Super AMOLED display on the Realme 9 Pro Plus delivers an immersive experience of watching content.

Even doing some daily stuff gives the vibes of using an expensive smartphone.

As expected from an AMOLED display, the colors are vibrant and punchy. Black goes too deep, and the overalls experience turns out to be great.

Is there anything special about this display?

Well, Not much. It’s a great quality display, for sure, but there is nothing special that will blow your mind.

It’s similar to other smartphones with a good display.

Using it outdoors isn’t a problem as it can go as high as 600 nits, whereas 430 nits is the typical brightness.

So overall, this is a great quality display for watching content, scrolling, and doing daily stuff.

However, the 9 Pro Plus doesn’t have an HDR, which is sad to see.

You should check these phones between 15000 to 20000.

Dual Speakers

Complementing the great display are the dual stereo speakers.

The sound separation is good, and the low end is tuned well. You will feel the bass in the audio, meaning that the audio experience is going to be great.

The vocals and treble and well-tuned, and the over sound gets pretty loud.

It gives a slight surround sound effect, which enhances the overall audio experience.

Furthermore, the Realme 9 Pro Plus retains the 3.5mm audio jack. So you don’t need to worry about your wired earphones or headphones.

Build Quality

The back glass panels aren’t new, but the fact these are fading away hurts. Seeing them back gives a sense of having premium build quality.

The same goes for the Realme 9 Pro Plus. The glass back smartphone does add a premium touch, and the smartphone feels sturdy in the hands.

There is nothing unique in the build, but still, it’s great to have a glass back.

Note that you need to handle it carefully because glass is glass and glass breaks.

The list of impressive features on the 9 Pro Plus ends here. Now, let’s move to the features that are just acceptable.

The price of the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G has dropped to 21000, making it an excellent value for money 5G smartphone for the price. Check the deal here.

Okayish features of Realme 9 Pro Plus

Is it worth Buying Realme 9 Pro Plus? Average features on Realme 9 Pro Plus

Various features on this phone are not that bad nor too impressive.

The 9 Pro Plus has a powerful processor. The MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G (6 nm) CPU delivers smooth performance, and most people will be happy with it.

Even playing games is possible until you throw very heavy titles like Genshin Impact.

We admit that this CPU is not bad, but the fact that there are better CPUs at the same price is something that Realme has forgotten.

For example, the Snapdragon 778G on Samsung Galaxy M52 5G is superior to the Dimensity 920. And the good news is that the Galaxy M52 5G is now available for 21k.

It’s better in single-core, multicore, and even in gaming too.

But still, it’s acceptable because the Dimensity 920 isn’t a weak CPU at all.

90Hz Refresh Rate

Do we need to say that smartphones costing Rs 16-17000 are offering great displays with a 120Hz refresh rate?

90Hz would have been nicer if the phone had launched at around 22k.

For the current price, it could be a deal-breaker for many.

Still, we can overlook it because 90Hz will consume less battery compared to the 120Hz.

And also, it’s a 90Hz AMOLED display which is always better than a 120Hz IPS LCD.

But note that 90Hz doesn’t make a significant difference from 60Hz. It’s just a tiny bit of difference in smoothness.

So we are not happy with this decision, but still, it’s not something that we can’t live without.

Ultra-wide Camera

The primary camera is good, for sure, but the ultrawide is just an average lens.

There is a significant difference in color, details, and sharpness between primary and ultrawide, especially in low light.

In the daytime, it performs well, but it’s not very useful at night.

It seems like Realme had focused on creating hype on the primary camera and forgot to enhance the ultrawide one.

Small Battery Size

The 4500 mAh battery seems lesser when we have already seen bigger batteries, even from the same company.

But we can accept it because the 9 Pro Plus has an AMOLED display, the refresh rate is only 90Hz, and the chipset is power efficient (6nm).

All the components used here are not so power-hungry. Hence you should comfortably get one day of battery life.

But the reality is something different.

On a regular day without any intense usage, the battery lasts about 6-8 hours, which is average.

Maybe we will see some improvement after some updates, but as of now, we are not so impressed with the battery life.

The good thing is that you get a fast charger in the box, which can fill the battery in under an hour.

So overall, the battery life is just decent, but the 5000 mAh battery would have been even nicer.

Glossy back with Platic Frame

We praised the build quality because of the glass back design.

However, it’s a home of fingerprints, and you need to wipe it with a cloth all the time if you don’t put a back cover.

But it’s a problem with all the phones not having a matte finish. So we can overlook it.

What’s further can be overlooked is the plastic frame. It doesn’t feel cheap, but it brings down the premium feel.

You can slap a back cover, and none of these problems will bother you again.

No SD Card Slot

Realme is a brand that used to offer two sim slots with a dedicated SD card slot.

But this time around, we have no SD card slot on the Realme 9 Pro Plus.

Realme again forgot that it’s a mid-range smartphone, and the users of this segment always love to have an SD card slot.

If it’s a camera-centric phone, then it’s obvious that people will capture more photos and videos, which will fill up the storage sooner.

As this is unacceptable, we can still overlook it because the base storage is 128GB, which is more than enough for many users.

These JBL portable speakers surprised us with the sound quality.

Worst features of Realme 9 Pro Plus

Is it worth Buying Realme 9 Pro Plus? Worst features on Realme 9 Pro Plus

Now let’s talk about some of the worst things in the Realme 9 Pro Plus.

The Big Bottom Chin

Most reviewers aren’t talking about it, but the bottom chin looks ugly, very ugly.

It reassembles the looks of a 2017 smartphone with a big bottom chin.

Back then, it was acceptable, but now in 2022, it’s the worst decision, especially when you have already launched smartphones with a tiny bottom bezel.

We don’t know who at the Realme team passed this design, but frankly speaking, it spoils the looks of the whole smartphone.

Many would have no complaints if the company had inserted a front-firing speaker in it. But as there is nothing like that, it just ruins the looks.

Useless 2MP Camera

Realme says that they take feedback from users and then improve their upcoming smartphones.

They said the same thing about the Realme 9 Pro Plus.

We want to know about those users who desperately wanted a 2MP camera.

Realme claims it to be the best camera phone and compares it to the flagship smartphones.

If this smartphone is so camera-centric, then what the heck a 2MP camera is doing here?

Just to increase the camera count, Realme has added this useless 2MP camera. It’s of no use in real life.

No OIS in Videos

What’s the primary purpose of having an OIS camera?

It’s to deliver smooth, shake-free videos along with good images in low-light.

Here is how Realme 9 Pro Plus records videos.

  • 720p @ 30fps with EIS
  • 1080p @ 30fps with EIS
  • 4K @ 30fps without EIS or OIS

Did you see it? There is no use of OIS in any of the video resolutions.

Then what’s the point of having OIS if you can’t even use it?

Maybe Realme will enable OIS in future updates, but as of now, it’s just a ridiculous decision.

Bloatware in UI

Ok, so this smartphone cost Rs 25000, but we still get tons of third-party apps preinstalled.

Dear Realme, if you are charging more, then at least give us a bloat-free experience.

Yes, you can uninstall most of the crap-ware, but it’s quite frustrating.

We were eagerly waiting for the pricing of the Realme 9 Pro Plus as many reviewers had created hype around it.

When we saw the price, our whole excitement went into vain.

Realme used to give us some of the most exciting smartphones at a budget price.

But now, Realme has disappointed many users who were excited about this phone.

What should be the right price?

  • It would have been a midrange killer smartphone for Rs 21000.
  • For Rs 22000, it would have been an excellent deal.
  • Anything more than 22k would have been overpriced, and this is what Realme has done.

The majority of the people buy a phone under 20k. They can somehow extend their budget to 21-22k at max, but they simply can’t stretch it to 25k.

It is where Realme has disappointed a lot of users.

These are the things that we simply did not like about this smartphone. It’s a good smartphone, but it also has several pros and cons.

The price of the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G has dropped to 21000. Now it has become the best value-for-money phone for around 20k.

  • The big bottom chin looks ugly
  • Average Ultawide camera
  • Useless 2MP camera

  • It’s not as good as it’s being hyped

Final Verdict: Is it worth Buying Realme 9 Pro Plus?

A smartphone earns the title of good or bad based on its price.

You can get some discount using an HDFC card, but not everyone has the same card.

Nor anyone will prefer to go to the bank to create a new account just to buy this smartphone.

So, should you buy the Realme 9 Pro Plus for Rs 25000?

Because there is no major competition to the Realme 9 Pro Plus at this price, you are left with no options.

It’s a good phone overall. So yes, you can buy it. But note that it’s just a good phone that can take great pictures. In other regards, it’s just a normal phone.

If you really need a good 5G phone, we highly suggest you take a look at the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G. It was a great phone, but now it has got even better for Rs 21k.
