Is it worth Buying Realme 9 Pro Plus

Realme 9 Pro Plus has been in the market for quite some time.

If you are planning to buy this phone, a few questions might wander in your mind.

  • Is it worth buying Realme 9 Pro Plus for the price of Rs 25000?
  • Does this smartphone justify its price tag?
  • Is it worth buying Realme 9 Pro Plus over other smartphones?

To clear all these doubts, we have covered everything that’s great, okayish, and worst in the Realme 9 Pro Plus.

Best features of Realme 9 Pro Plus

Is it worth Buying Realme 9 Pro Plus, Best features on Realme 9 Pro Plus

Primary Camera

The most highlighting feature of the Realme 9 Pro+ is the main camera.

Realme has dared to compare this camera to the Pixel 6 and Galaxy S21. Is it true?

Is Realme 9 Pro Plus camera is as good as the Pixel 6 or Samsung Galaxy S21?

Well, it’s not true.

Those two smartphones are entirely on another level. Some reviewers have been praising its camera to the level of Pixel 6 or S21.

But, believe it or not, there is nothing like that.

It would have been nicer if Realme claimed it to be the best camera phone under 30k.

When we consider it as mid-range phone, then yes, it has excellent camera for the price.

The pictures taken with the primary 50MP camera turn out to be excellent in every lighting condition.

The Sony IMX766 sensor seems to work fine in maintaining the highlights and main subject in the frame.

Other smartphones fail to capture great shots in low light, but the 9 Pro Plus outperforms them using OIS.

The OIS really helps in taking some impressive images in low lighting conditions.

So overall, we are impressed by the pictures taken from the primary camera of Realme 9 Pro Plus.

Display

The FHD Super AMOLED display on the Realme 9 Pro Plus delivers an immersive experience of watching content.

Even doing some daily stuff gives the vibes of using an expensive smartphone.

As expected from an AMOLED display, the colors are vibrant and punchy. Black goes too deep, and the overalls experience turns out to be great.

Is there anything special about this display?

Well, Not much. It’s a great quality display, for sure, but there is nothing special that will blow your mind.

It’s similar to other smartphones with a good display.

Using it outdoors isn’t a problem as it can go as high as 600 nits, whereas 430 nits is the typical brightness.

So overall, this is a great quality display for watching content, scrolling, and doing daily stuff.

However, it’s not an HDR display, which is a slight disappointment.

You should check these phones between 15000 to 20000.

Dual Speakers

Complementing the great display are the dual stereo speakers.

The sound separation is good, and the low end is tuned well. You will feel the bass in the audio, meaning that the audio experience is going to be great.

The vocals and treble and well-tuned, and the over sound gets pretty loud.

It gives a slight surround sound effect, which enhances the overall audio experience.

Furthermore, the Realme 9 Pro Plus retains the 3.5mm audio jack. So you don’t need to worry about your wired earphones or headphones.

Build Quality

The back glass panels aren’t new, but the fact these are fading away hurts. Even some expensive smartphones come with a plastic back, which isn’t that exciting to see.

But the Realme has taken a different route and offered a glass back on the 9 Pro Plus. It adds a premium touch, and the smartphone feels sturdy in the hands.

It’s great to have a glass back, as most smartphones don’t offer one at this or even a much higher price.

But note that you need to handle it carefully because glass breaks no matter how hard it is.

Processor

The 9 Pro Plus has a powerful processor. The MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G (6 nm) CPU delivers smooth performance, and most people will be happy with it.

Even playing games is possible until you throw very heavy titles like Genshin Impact.

The overall performance of this CPU is great in daily life, but the fact that there are better CPUs at the same price leaves heavy users a little disappointed.

For example, the Snapdragon 778G on Samsung Galaxy M52 5G is superior to the Dimensity 920. It’s better in single-core, multi-core, and even in gaming too.

But still, we like the performance of Density 920 as it isn’t a weak CPU at all.

90Hz Refresh Rate

We know that smartphones costing Rs 16-17000 are offering great displays with a 120Hz refresh rate.

We also admit that 120Hz would have been great at this price.

But 90Hz feels smoother than a standard 60Hz panel. You can see the difference in the smoothness.

Another factor that favors the 90Hz is that it will consume less battery compared to the 120Hz panel.

And also, it’s a 90Hz AMOLED display which is always better than a 120Hz IPS LCD.

Yes, we want a 120Hz display, but the fact that this smartphone has only 90Hz isn’t something that we can’t live without.

The list of impressive features on the 9 Pro Plus ends here. Now, let’s move to the features that are neither impressive nor bad.

Okayish features of Realme 9 Pro Plus

Is it worth Buying Realme 9 Pro Plus? Average features on Realme 9 Pro Plus

Various features on this phone are just average.

Ultra-wide Camera

The primary camera is impressive for sure, but the ultrawide is just an average lens.

There is a significant difference in color, details, and sharpness between primary and ultrawide, especially in low light.

In the daytime, it performs well, but it’s not very useful at night.

But it’s the same problem with every smartphone in this price. So we can’t blame only Realme for doing this.

Small Battery Size

Now, this is something that we can’t overlook. No matter if a user uses his phone intensively or not, he wants it to last longer.

The 4500 mAh battery seems lesser, and in real life, too, it performs average.

The AMOLED display, 90Hz refresh rate, and 6 nm power-efficient chipset don’t consume a lot of power, but still, this phone doesn’t give that impressive battery life.

On a regular day without any intense usage, the battery lasts about 6-7 hours, which is decent.

But the moment you play a lot of games, click pictures all day long, and keep surfing the internet, you will see the battery drains quickly. In such a scenario, you will get 4 to 5 hours of the SOT.

Maybe we will see some improvement after some updates, but as of now, we are not so impressed with the battery life.

The good thing is that you get a fast charger in the box, which can fill the battery in under an hour.

So overall, the battery life is just decent, but the 5000 mAh battery would have improved the battery significantly.

No SD Card Slot

Realme is a brand that used to offer two sim slots with a dedicated SD card slot.

But this time around, we see no SD card slot on the Realme 9 Pro Plus.

An SD card slot should be given considering the fact that it’s a mid-range smartphone, and the users of this segment always love to have an SD card slot.

As it’s a camera-centric phone, it’s obvious that people will capture more photos and videos, which will fill up the storage sooner.

But the good thing is that the base storage is 128GB, which is more than enough for many users.

These JBL portable speakers surprised us with the sound quality.

Worst features of Realme 9 Pro Plus

Is it worth Buying Realme 9 Pro Plus? Worst features on Realme 9 Pro Plus

Now let’s talk about some of the worst things in the Realme 9 Pro Plus.

Useless 2MP Camera

Realme says that they take feedback from users and then improve their upcoming smartphones.

They said the same thing about the Realme 9 Pro Plus.

Who are those users who want a 2MP camera?

The main highlight of this smartphone is the camera. So a 2MP camera on a camera-centric smartphone leaves users disappointed.

It’s clear that to increase the camera count, Realme has added this useless 2MP camera.

They could have omitted the 2MP camera and invested more in ultra wide to make it a complete camera phone.

No Proper OIS in 4K Videos

What’s the primary purpose of having an OIS camera?

It’s to deliver smooth, shake-free videos along with good images in low-light.

Here is how Realme 9 Pro Plus records videos.

  • 720p @ 30fps with EIS and OIS
  • 1080p @ 30fps with EIS and OIS
  • 4K @ 30fps without OIS

OIS works in HD and FHD videos, but its full functionality is restricted on this phone. Only 40% of OIS works in videos, and the rest is taken care of by EIS.

The OIS simply doesn’t work in the 4K video.

We don’t understand the point of having OIS if we can’t utilize it properly in videos.

You should know if Intel Evo laptops are good or not.

Bloatware in UI

As expected, this smartphone comes with a lot of preloaded apps.

Some apps might be useful to you, but most apps are just useless.

Yes, you can uninstall these apps, but remember, there are a lot of bloatware apps compared to other phones.

Pricing

We know the Realme 9 Pro Plus is a very capable phone, but it’s overpriced for sure.

What should be the right price?

  • It would have been a midrange killer smartphone for Rs 21000.
  • For Rs 22000, it would have been an excellent deal.
  • Anything more than 23k is overpriced.

It’s great to see that the price comes to Rs 20000 during sales. For that price, the Realme 9 Pro Plus is the best bang for your buck smartphone.

It’s hard to compete for under 20k.

So make sure to get this phone during sales.

Fog issue in Realme 9 Pro Plus

We haven’t faced the fog issue, but many users have complained about the same, especially in the newer units.

So, what is the reason for the fog in the Realme 9 Pro plus?

If you have noticed, the fog issue persists when you record video using the primary camera in FHD resolution.

While recording FHD video, the OIS gets enabled, and the physical components start to move. During this movement, the outer air enters the main camera, which results in fog on the main lens.

What solution company has come up with?

Realme has addressed this issue, but they don’t have a proper solution for this, at least for now.

The company advises you to record videos in 4K because at this resolution, OIS gets disabled and no components make any movement, and fog doesn’t get inside.

The company also has advised you to take your phone to the service center, but don’t do that. They will open your phone, and the issue will remain as it is.

What we advise you is to get a cover glass for the camera, as seen in some videos, it doesn’t allow the fog to get in.

As of now, it’s the only legit solution.

So, these are the things we did not like about this smartphone.

  • No OIS in 4K videos

  • Fog issues in some units

Final Verdict: Is it worth Buying Realme 9 Pro Plus?

This smartphone was overpriced when it launched.

Even today, the price is almost the same as it was at the launch time, but during sales, you can get this phone for under Rs 20000.

For that price, it’s the best all-rounder phone with excellent cameras. Even for Rs 22000, it’s a great phone.

But should you buy the Realme 9 Pro Plus for Rs 25000?

Well, it’s a camera-centric phone. Hence, it becomes an easy recommendation for under 25k for camera lovers.

But, if the camera isn’t your highest priority, and still you want a Realme phone, then get the Realme Narzo 50 Pro, which costs 16k during sales, and comes with the same Dimensity 920 processor, 90Hz AMOLED display, bigger 5000 mAH battery, and much more.

Coming to 9 Pro Plus, despite having some pros and cons, it is a good phone overall, and you can buy it.
