It’s a long feature list of both Mi Notebook Pro and Ultra.

Looking at the paper specs, it seems like both are feature-rich laptops. There is hardly any useful feature that is skipped here.

Both the laptops are good, but the question is, which one is better than the other? Which laptop is the right laptop for you?

Similarities in Mi Notebook Pro and Ultra

Mi Notebook Pro vs Ultra similarities

Design

Both the Mi Notebook Pro and Ultra are made of metal. It’s a Series 6 Aluminium that gives these laptops a sturdy build.

The older Mi Notebook 14 had the best build quality, and the same trend continues here. The moment you hold any of these laptops, you will be surprised with the build quality.

The robust feel will give you confidence that you haven’t invested in the wrong laptop.

Even the lid is also made of metal, but the bezels around the display are plastic, which is common at this price.

A slight disappointment comes in the form of flex around the keyboard and mouse. It doesn’t feel that cheap, but it should have been better because these laptops fall in the premium category.

Storage

Both MI Notebook Pro and Ultra have the same storage options.

The base variants of both the laptops come with 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage, while the upper variants come with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD.

The 8GB variants are available with only Core i5 processors, and the 16GB variants are available with Core i7 processors.

Note that you can’t upgrade the RAM in either of the laptops.

Processor

All variants of the last-gen Mi Notebook 14 used to offer Intel CPUs, and the same trend continues here.

Till now, there are no Ryzen laptops from Xiaomi.

Now coming to Notebook Pro and Ultra, both of these have the same CPU configurations.

The 8GB variants of both come with Intel i5 11th gen Tiger Lake 11300H processor, and 16GB variants come with Intel i7 11th gen Tiger Lake 11370H processor.

Now you might be wondering, what is this Tiger lake, and how is it different from the regular 11th gen CPU.

The H at the end of the CPU name stands for High-Performance Graphics.

The Tiger lake CPUs have more frequency and higher TDP than the regular 11th gen CPU, which results in better performance.

So both the Notebook Pro and Ultra have more powerful CPUs that can handle heavy tasks like 3D rendering more effectively.

But keep in mind that both of these laptops are meant to be made for professionals who do casual gaming. If you are a heavy gamer, then skip these laptops, or you can check out these cheap gaming laptops.

Other features

What we loved the most about the latest MI laptop series are the features. It’s glad to see that Xiaomi hasn’t skimped on useful features, even on the lower variants.

  • This time around, Mi laptops come with a fingerprint scanner and a backlit keyboard.
  • The traditional charger is now gone and replaced with a Type-C charger. You can put it in both Type C port or thunderbolt 4 port to charge the laptop.
  • Both variants come with dual 2W speakers. At first, these speakers sound tiny. But you need to change one setting for better audio. Follow the steps to get a louder sound. In the Windows start menu, search for ‘DTS’. Now open the app called DTS Audio Processing. Finally, choose the Game Mode to get a louder sound.
  • The inclusion of the Thunderbolt 4 port makes these laptops future-proof. If you have a Thunderbolt 4 supported external SSD, then you can get a whopping speed of 40GB/s.
  • This time around, both the laptops come with an integrated webcam. The quality of it is just serviceable.

The list of common features between Mi Notebook Pro and Ultra goes on, but the above-mentioned are the major ones.

But here comes the difference between these two laptops.

Difference between Mi Notebook Pro and Ultra

Mi Notebook Pro vs Ultra differences

Form Factor

Both the laptops are made for two different audiences.

Mi Notebook Pro is a 14-inch laptop that is made for portability. It’s a lightweight laptop that you can carry easily.

The Notebook Ultra, on the other hand, is a 15.6-inch laptop that is made for productivity.

If the Notebook Ultra seems bigger to you, then that’s not the case because the bezels are extremely slim.

Now, which one is better in terms of form factors?

It’s completely your choice. If you prefer a smaller and portable laptop, then Notebook Pro is ideal, but if you want a bigger display, then Notebook Ultra is the best option.

Display

The biggest difference between Notebook Pro and Ultra is the display. But to be honest, this biggest difference is negligible.

How?

The Notebook Pro has a 14-inch QHD+ display (2560×1600), resulting in 215 PPI. On the other hand, Notebook Ultra has a 3.2K resolution (3200×2000), resulting in 241 PPI.

Both the displays are extremely vivid and sharp, and this 26 PPI difference isn’t evident for a regular user.

What’s evident is the refresh rate. Notebook Ultra has a 90Hz panel which feels significantly smoother.

From web browsing to scrolling, everything feels silky smooth on Notebook Ultra.

But the question is, Is it worth paying extra for a 90Hz panel?

In our honest opinion, it’s worth paying because the price difference isn’t that huge, and the display is bigger and slightly better.

It might not feel worth paying now, but in the long run, you will feel that choosing the 90Hz panel was a right decision.

Battery

On paper, there is a significant difference in the battery. Notebook Ultra’s 70 Watt-Hours battery seems more promising than the 56 Watt-Hours on Notebook Pro.

But how much of a difference does it make?

In the real world, both laptops give nearly the same battery life.

Xiaomi has intentionally given a larger battery of Ultra because its large 90Hz display with higher PPI is going to consume more battery life.

Luckily, both laptops offer a solid battery life. The company claims 12 hours of battery life on both, but with regular use, both of these can last for 7 hours with ease.

Running heavy software might decrease the battery life significantly.

So overall, there is little to no difference in the battery life of Notebook Pro and Ultra, and both can last for full-day on a single charge.

Is Mi Notebook Pro worth buying?

The shortcoming of the older Mi Notebook 14 has been rectified here with some additional improvements.

In our honest opinion, Notebook Pro has all the features that any professional or office user would need.

So Yes, the Mi Notebook Pro is a laptop worth buying.

Bear in mind that this laptop isn’t meant to be a gaming one. It can handle games at lower settings but don’t expect anything more than that.

Pros and Cons of Mi Notebook Pro

  • Solid Aluminium build
  • Amazing display
  • Thin bezels
  • Powerful processor
  • Sufficient RAM and storage
  • All-day battery life
  • Thunderbolt 4 with Power Delivery
  • Dual speakers sound good after changing a setting
  • Backlit keyboard and fingerprint scanner
  • Easy to carry in the backpack
  • Non upgradeable RAM and storage
  • Average webcam
  • Charger included in the box feels cheap

Is Mi Notebook Ultra worth buying?

The Notebook Ultra costs extra compared to the Pro, but this extra cost is justified.

The extra smoothness and resolution are definitely appreciable.

Xiaomi priced the Notebook Ultra very cleverly and didn’t make it very costly compared to the Pro.

Taking everything into consideration, we have found that the Mi Notebook Ultra is a worthy laptop.

But the cons of Pro variants continue here too.

Pros and Cons of Mi Notebook Ultra

  • Sturdy build quality
  • Amazing 3K display
  • 90Hz refresh rate
  • Thin bezels
  • Powerful processor
  • Enough RAM and storage in the base variant
  • All-day battery life
  • Thunderbolt 4 with Power Delivery
  • Tweaking setting makes dual speakers sound good
  • Backlit keyboard and fingerprint scanner
  • Average webcam
  • Non upgradeable RAM and storage
  • Charger included in the box feels cheap

Mi Notebook Pro vs Ultra, Which one is the Best?

Now you know that both the laptops are good, but the question is, which one is the best value?

In our personal opinion, you should go for the Mi Notebook Pro.

Why?

Because this laptop has all the features that you would need. It’s small in size and easy to carry.

The price difference of Rs 3000 between both the models isn’t justified because you aren’t going to get a lot of extra in return of Rs 3k. So it’s better to go for MI Notebook Pro.

But,

The Notebook Ultra is bad by no means. If you want a slightly bigger laptop and a high refresh rate, then you can go for the Ultra without any doubt.

    Display can’t make difference

    1. Yes, it is suitable to some extent. But, if you are going to run high graphics intensive data analytics and statistics apps, then you will need a laptop with dedicated GPU and 16GB RAM. MI Notebook Ultra doesn’t have a dedicated GPU. So, you should look for other laptops.
