Except for the driver size and IP rating, there isn’t a significant difference in both the earphones. Right?

Well, no, that’s not true. Despite being almost similar on paper, both the earphones have significant differences in real life.

So putting the on-paper specs aside, let’s move to the actual Realme Buds 2 vs boAt 242 comparison.

Realme Buds 2 vs boAt 242 Comparison

Build Quality

Realme Buds 2 vs boAt 242 Build Quality

When we took both the earphones out of the box, we immediately noticed that the build quality of Real Buds 2 is sturdy and way more premium.

After taking a closer look and using both the earphones for days, the boAt 242 also didn’t fail to impress.

But still, the braided cable of Realme Buds 2 is way more premium than the simple rounded cable of boAt 242.

However, the wire gets thinner from the splitter to the earbuds on both the earphones. But here also, the wire on Realme Buds 2 is more premium.

Another significant difference in the build quality is that the Real Buds 2 has metal earbuds with magnets, and boAt 242 has plastic earbuds.

The plastic on boAt 242 is solid and of good quality, but the metal build on Real Buds 2 is better and more premium.

We aren’t saying that the build quality on boAt 242 is inferior. No, it’s not. It’s good for the price, but the thing is, Realme Buds 2 comes with more sturdy build quality overall.

Verdict: The wire from the splitter to earbuds on boAt 242 could have been thicker. Other than that, there is no problem in terms of build quality on both the earphones.

Design and Comfort

In our full review of boAt 242, we have mentioned that its comfort is very subjective. Because of the ear hooks, this earphone may fit for one and may not for the other.

We stick to what we have mentioned in the review. The boAt Bassheads is designed for sports lovers. Hence, it comes with ear hooks to provide extra grip.

It does provide a better grip for sure but also leads to discomfort. To test it further, we gave it to 5-6 friends to listen to music, and 3 of them complained about the comfort.

But after removing the ear hooks, nobody complained.

So it seems like the ear hooks are causing the discomfort, and one should remove them to get a more comfortable experience.

In the case of Real Buds 2, there is no issue with comfort. The earbuds are tilted at 45°, just like the boAt 252, and fit perfectly in the ears.

No one complained about the comfort after listening to music or watching movies for hours.

The grip of Buds 2 is strong enough to handle the movements of sports activities like gym or cycling.

Both earphones can be used in different situations, like in the office or the gym. However, Real Buds 2 is more suitable for regular use, while boAt 242 is more for physical activities.

Verdict: In our case, the Realme Buds 2 definitely offers better comfort, but boAt 242 wasn’t the worst. If you have slightly bigger ears, then boAt 242 could offer the same comfort.

Design and Comfort Rating:

boAt BAssheads 242: 3.8

Call Quality

It is the area where both the earphones go neck-to-neck.

The mic placement on both earphones is exactly the same, which is closer to the mouth. On both, the mic is placed in the right ear wire just besides the jaws.

This placement of the mic makes a significant difference in call quality.

While talking on the call using both earphones, the receiver faces no issue hearing our voice properly.

The voice remains clear and blocks outer noise to some extent.

It means you can easily make calls on both earphones in a noisy environment.

Another good thing is that you can pick up or end a call using the button on the earphone. You don’t need to take your phone out of your pocket.

Verdict: It’s hard to pick a winner here because both the Realme Buds 2 and boAt 242 deliver excellent call quality. If the same is your highest priority, you can go for any one of these two.

Sound and Bass Quality

Realme Buds 2 vs boAt 242 Sound Quality

It’s an area where both the earphones are great but different from each other.

Audio quality is the main reason for buying any earphone. The expectations go high with reputed brands.

Well, your expectations won’t go in to vain with these two earphones.

Starting with the boAt 242, its 10mm driver delivers great audio output.

This earphone carries the boAt signature sound with the right mixture of vocals, treble, and bass.

Elaborating further, the vocals are absolutely clear, and the treble is more punchy. Both of these are complemented by deep and thumping bass.

The treble is on the higher side and perfect for those who prefer it. The vocals remain clear even at full volume.

Note that the boAt 242 gets so loud that you will hardly put it on full volume. 80% volume is enough for most users.

Bass lovers will also enjoy this earphone because it’s deep and enjoyable.

Coming to the Realme Buds 2, its 11.2 mm driver is focused to deliver a bass-boosted sound.

After testing this earphone, we were impressed with its sound quality.

The bigger driver delivers more deep and thumping bass, which is a treat for bass lovers.

Having boosted bass doesn’t mean that other frequencies are compromised, nor does the bass muffle these frequencies.

Yes, the treble is less punchy compared to boAt 242, but it still remains enjoyable. The same goes for vocals, which are clear.

This earphone also gets pretty loud, so we advise you to keep the volume at a comfortable level.

Because of the impressive sound quality, both the earphones are featured in the list of best earphones under 500.

Verdict: Both the earphones deliver impressive sound quality. If you want louder vocals and treble with great bass, then boAt 242 is the right option. Otherwise, the Realme Buds 2 is perfect for heavy bass lovers with overall impressive sound output.

  2. Hello Bestpart Team i have once tried this realme buds 2 but i felt the buds were heavy and cause earpain so i have returned those but still i am again want to give it a try but i am feeling that boat has plastic bud will be lighter whats your opinion on that. And one more thing real me gives only 6 month warranty where as boat gives one year warranty and i have been using the realme buds classic version and it is not working properly after using almost 8 months so this is one more point of worrying for me if i will go with buds 2 kindly reply what should i do.?

    1. We are still using the Realme Buds 2 and haven’t faced any problems yet. Yes, it’s a tiny bit heavier, but we haven’t faced any earache, to be honest.
boAt 242 is made of plastic and feels light for sure. But boAt 152 is made of metal and weighs about the same as Realme Buds 2.
So if you want lightweight earphones, then you should go with the ones made of plastic. The boAt 242 is a good option in that case.
If you have already used the Realme Buds 2 and didn’t like it for any reason, then you should go with any other wired earphone such as boAt 242.

    1. We have been using the Realme Buds 2 for months and never felt any earache, even after watching movies for hours. It fits comfortably in the ears. So don’t worry about the ear pain.
